Los angeles to San Francisco

I am planning a trip to San Francisco from LA. If will be 3 days maximum. Whats the best way to get to SF? By car, train or plane? What do you suggest me?

If you only have three days total for the trip, you could easily use all that time in San Francisco itself. I would fly.

If you had longer, there is a scenic drive you could take to get to San Francisco, but it would take a couple of days.

Even driving the fastest way would take 5 or 6 hours minimum.

Flying is what I'd do for the time you have and flights are often not too expensive between the two cities.

Here is a recent thread tripadvisor.com/…59383723

SFSusanW put it well when she says that a guide book will give you the generic list of "average" sights. The great thing about TA is that you can get input tailored to you specific interests. But you have to tell us what those are first.

With regards the trip between SF and LA, check the CA forum (one level up) for all sorts of information.

Agree with HD, a flight is about 1 hour vs 1 day on the road if you drive. If you had more than 3 days driving would bean option.

Is that 3 days maximum to get to SF or does it include your time in SF?

If the former, then Pismo Beach or Cambria for night 1. Monterey, Carmel or Pacific Grove for night 2. Rezzies required, especially if traveling over a weekend and many places have 2 night minimums on weekends along the coast.

There are more permutations to airline fairs than Einstein has brain cells. Check www.southwest.com -- usually the best deals and free bags.
