First Visit

I am planning on visiting SF next year. I have some questions, however, I hope someone can help me with. Is there a decent hotel near the Moscone Center that doesn't cost tons of money? (If not, I'll figure it out). Do any of the hotels offer free wifi? Do you know of any with decent sized rooms? (A lot of reviews state that rooms are really small, and I looked at a queen room that was only 115 sq ft - you can't even walk around something that small). How expensive is food in general and is public transportation easy to access? I do understand the buildings are old and the rooms aren't huge, but I'd like something not tiny, either.

Thanks for your help. This will help plan how much it is going to cost.

Also, one last question - I will have to mail some items home so can you tell me the best post office nearby to do this (we won't have a car but don't have a problem taking a cab to do this). Again, thanks.

<< that doesn't cost tons of money?>>

I have no idea how much a ton of money is in dollars. Can you give us an amount per night you would like to spend?

If you are looking for larger rooms then check the newer, more modern hotels. Near Moscone that would be the W, Westin Market St. and IC. And of course the St. Regis but that might exceed "a ton."

<<How expensive is food in general >>

Just like Vegas there is everything there from food trucks to fine dining. Tell us what you're looking for and how much you want to pay.

The more specific your questions, the better we can respond to your questions.

With regards to public transit: where do you want to go? Muni (SF's transit system) prides itself on the pact that 90+% of the addresses in the city are within 2 blocks of a bus stop. But whether that bus gets you to where you want to go is another question. The closer you are to Market St. the better your odds of getting wherever on one bus.

The best I can do for you now is google "US post office near Moscone" and it brings up 150 Sutter and 182 Howard.

I'll add that you should check out the Top Questions (right hand side of non-mobile forum screen). They are kept up to date and include a lot of basic information as well as some things directly related to your (mostly general) topics.

I also agree that refining your questions and/or providing specifics will help us provide answers.

Sorry, guess I should have specified. The hotels I've seen seem to have room rates of around $350-900 a night. That seems really high to me, since they don't even include breakfast. If that's the going rate, then at least I know what to expect.

As far as food, I don't mind paying for a decent meal, but I don't want to pay $50 for a steak with all the sides extra $$ either (we get spoiled here in Vegas; if you eat at a casino off the strip, you can get a great steak with a salad bar for that price). I don't like food trucks (don't eat at them here either) so that's not an option. But whatever, I'm just hoping for your good opinions on decent hotels and restaurants so I can plan ahead. I have heard that it's pricey there, so I don't expect cheap; but I don't want to pay $350+ a night for a room. Hope this helps.

What are your dates? It sounds like your visit corresponds with a big meeting. There will be other options available but they will be further away from Moscone.

SF is a popular convention town and a large one (10,000 people or more) will up hotels a lot. And the closer those hotels are to Moscone the faster their rates go up.
