Need Help with trip Plan - Too Confused

What we are thinking - around 10 day trip in Septmeber. Salt lake, to Park City, to ?not sure.... heading to Moab, .... Moab to Bryce, then to LV to fly home. Ptimary focus is Moab and Bryce, but thought to throw in Park City for a different scenery....

What we like: hiking (not agreesive), photography, outdoorsy stuff during day. Evening cocktails and a bite to eat (not foodies or night lifers), mabe a restaurant or pub by a stream....We LOVED Sedona area. We are late 50s and active outdoors. I love kayaking , paddle boarding, biking - hubby golfer but not on this trip

Lodging - we HATE horrid little motels, like resorts, lodges, etc. - a bit of character, dress down eating.

Any intinerary ideas? Is this too much to pack in? What to leave out???

All help is greatly appreciated!

Any reason you're departing out of Las Vegas? That will likely hit you with a rental car drop fee and there's no time advantage for you on this itinerary. Just go R/T SLC and you'll have a better plan.

1 - Arrival; drive to Moab

2 - Moab

3 - Moab

4 - Drive to Torrey; visit Little Wild Horse Canyon

5 - Bryce

6 - Bryce

7 - Drive to Park City

8 - Park City

9 - Park City

10 - Depart

We like River Canyon Lodge in Moab. Definitely motel but neat, clean right in town. If you want to upsacle in town look at Gonzo Inn. Out of town Sorrel River Ranch and Red Cliffs. In Bryce Ruby's Best Western or Grand are best choices. In Park City, you can probably get a pretty good off season deal. You could look at nice resort lodges like Stein Eriksen Lodge, Grand Summit, etc. On Main Street Sky Lodge or Marriott Summit Watch. But you'll find plenty of choices. You won't find anything formal on this itinerary - you'll be very comfortable.

Have fun.

The above is a great itinerary. September will be a nice month to visit. The temps in Southern Utah will have cooled down from the summer scorch. Leaves will likely be changing in Park City and Salt Lake's Big Cottonwood Canyon, which you could access over Guardsman Pass near the Montage Resort in Deer Valley.

You could rent stand up paddle boards at Deer Creek or Jordanelle near Park City. There are lots of biking trails in there and of course near Moab. I would recommend taking a rafting or inflatable kayak trip down the Colorado River. Doesn't have to be anything crazy, just a scenic float trip from Fisher Towers would be fun for half a day.

I would also echo the thoughts about flying into and out of SLC. Rental drop fees would be expensive and you save no drive time by departing from Vegas as opposed to SLC. Just a consideration.

The itinerary is doable and you could research where you would like to spend more time and shave a day off of Bryce or Park City and add it to Moab or Torrey. Or take one of the days and explore areas on highway 12 like the Petrified Forrest, Calf Creek Falls, or Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Gulch.

Curious why Zion is not mentioned. Zion and Bryce make a nice combo/pair of parks to see, given their radical differences, and their close proximity to each other.

BTW, if you can find a room or cabin at the lodge in Bryce NP, then it will fit your accomodation wishes. Other than that, nothing at Bryce but two fairly good Best Westerns www.brycecanyoncountry.com

Moab has a better selection to choose from.. There are a couple of ranch resorts along SR128 outside of Moab which boast incredible scenery. www.discovermoab.com

If you liked Sedona also try Springdale for Zion NP.

Too avoid the small motels just shop for the highest price.

From Torrey, I would rather check out Capitol Reef NP, then straight to Zion NP/Springdale. Bryce is nice, but my least favorite park in Utah.

Opinions differ on that. Bryce is unique imo and certainly should not be missed.

Do NOT miss Bryce . . . my favorite hike was in Bryce out of all 5 National Parks we visited last September. Stay at the Gonzo Inn in Moab. Just get a standard room . . . standard room is actually a little apartment with a separate living/dining/kitchen area. It is beautiful and very clean, and king-size beds are like sleeping in the clouds. Do NOT stay at Canyon River Lodge, worst hotel we stayed in during our two-week trip. Rooms are so small you cannot move, beds uncomfortable, old and dingy, and towels are threadbare. Gonzo Inn was heaven!
