Traditional music in Asheville, NC

We are travelling through Asheville on our way to West Virginia and would like to experience some traditional music along the way. We arrive on 3rd August and leave the next morning for Beckley. Any suggestions? Also sugestions for a reasonably priced Hotel for that night, Two adults and two teenagers 14 and 16 years.

Many thanks.

That's a Friday isn't it? Drive over the mountain ( on I-40) to Old Fort, NC. They have old time bluegrass and buck dancing on Friday nights - no charge. Best wishes.

look at exploreasheville.com which lists upcoming events. Often there are outdoor activities like Shindig on the Green, Friday after 5pm as well as restaurants that have live music. As far as reasonable hotels - the most reasonable downtown for you would be Best Western, otherwise check out Tunnel Road area or Biltmore Ave/Hendersonville Road south of town.

Friday night, August 3, is one of the nights for the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival held here every year. The Diana Wortham Theatre should have tickets on sale now (dwtheatre dot com).

There are only a couple of hotels downtown and most of them are pricey. I'd head to Tunnel Road (just a few minutes East of downtown) for a lot of more affordable options.
