long week-end trip advice

We are driving from the Myrtle Beach area to Ashville. We'd like to stop at Chimney Rock Park & Grandfather Mtn on our way there and back. We were thinking of a total of 3 nights...at the most 4.

Any other things to see - besides Biltmore- that shouldn't be missed ? We like nature, scenic drives, really great restaurants and things out of the ordinary.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

When are you coming? If it is in the Spring and the Blue Ridge parkway is open, it is a cant miss and besides fuel costs, it is free.

We ate a place in West Asheville called 28806 Deli on West Patton Avenue. Some of the best dining in town. The meals are fantastic. Dont let the Deli name fool you.

From Chimney Rock I'd probably make a stop in Black Mountain and wander around, maybe stop for lunch at Berliner Kindl and have a good German beer and some sausage or else Veranda's for lunch - great soup.

Downtown Asheville is full of great little shops and galleries. You can easily spend a whole day just exploring downtown and stopping for lunch/dinner and coffee. Some unusual spots are the new Chocolate Lounge that serves all things chocolate and Sante a wine bar with a limited appetizer menu. There are lots of great restaurant choices - check out chowhound.com

I'd drive up to the Grove Park Inn and walk through the Great Hall and maybe have a drink there. May would be a wonderful time to explore the Arboreteum as everything will be blooming. Rent a canoe and paddle along the French Broad or check into horse back riding. Take a hike in Bent Creek Park. Drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Drive out to Hot Springs and rent a tub and have a soak along the French Broad River or go up to Shojii just outside Asheville in Fairview and get a tub looking out over the Parkway.
