Good activities for 1st week of April?

We're visiting the first week of April and are trying to find some good/ fun things to do. We have a 6 year old, a 10 y.o., and a 12 y.o.

We're thinking about

Linville Caverns

and the Arboretum.

Any suggestions>

While the Biltmore is strongly promoting activities for kids, I still have a hard time thinking that touring the house or viewing the gardens and stables, at least at that entry price, would be a good idea. I have seen posts to the contrary here though.

WNC Nature Center to see animals. Depending on the interests of your kids: Colburn Gem Museum, Health Adventure, Chimney Rock

Are you guys into hiking? The Blur Ridge Parkway will be open and head south to Graveyard Fields and Shinning Rock Wilderness Area for some nice day hikes. Take the kids to the Cardle of Forestry too. The Elk in Cataloochee are nice as well, get there about 2 hours before sunset to see the most elk.

You got gem mining in Franklin, you have touristy things in Maggie Valley and Cherokee too. We live in Sylva and get to Asheville in about 50 minutes.

Enjoy your trip.

Kids would love the fish hatchery near Brevard. They actually let you feed the trout. Its free too.

Chimney Rock is another nice place. Also the Carl Sandburg house in Flat Rock would be kid friendly. They have a working goat farm. You can pet the goats and there is a volunteer ranger that will tell you all their names and all about them. Its free too if you dont take the guided house tour.

When at Linville Caverns don't miss Linville Falls.

Grandfathers Mountain near Boone is nice for the kids. It may be a bit chilly then.

Take a long drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Take a picnic lunch.

Our (just turned) 6 year old loves the Craggy Garden Trail up to the point. It is short enough that he can do it without complaining and long enough to be considered a "hike"

It was a waste of money for us at the Biltmore House, he complained the whole time and we left early LOL Not really a whole lot for kids to do there..... he was not impressed with anything except the ice cream.

We love Linville.

He loves Ghost Town in the Sky but I am not sure when their season starts.

I just checked out Ghost Town in the Sky and it looks like their season doesn't start until May.
