Looking For Activites for the Cub Scouts to Do

I am starting to plan the activities for my son's cub scout pack and was searching Trip Advisor for some ideas. We are a very active group and I am trying to find outings that we have not done before (you know the usual) Boys range in age from 6-10 and there are about 25.

I am planning a whole year so if it is seasonal please still respond. Thank you in advance.

Hey there!!!! Wow it is that time of year again!?!

We really loved Skinny Dip Falls although the water was VERY cold. It is about 1/2 an hour away. While I was there I was thinking that the cub scouts could do the safety water test there. There would be no need for the ropes, too small... but could do the buddy system, etc.

It is an easy 20 minute hike to the falls.

Also, the Canton Corn Maize has a scout badge - that would be great for the Fall.

Hi Sassy,

I'm a former cubmaster myself, so I'll try to help out. Although you didn't say where you're located, I'm assuming you're interested in the Asheville area since your on this forum (duh!). There are many things of interest to Cub Scouts:

- The Western NC Nature Center (www.wildwnc.org) is a great experience for kids this age. It's a rehab center for injured wildlife. Not too big (so you can get through it in a reasonable amount of time), but very interesting. They also offer many educational programs for groups.

- There are many gem mines in the mountains where you can pan for gems and learn about the many different stones found in NC. Not too sure about the Asheville area--we went to one near Little Switzerland, but I'm sure there are some closer to Asheville.

- Oconaluftee Indian Village in Cherokee is educational and interesting...a nice view into how the Cherokee people lived. It's maybe an hour from Asheville, so I'm not sure if that's practical for you. But you could combine it with a camping trip to make it worthwhile. There are also many other interesting attractions in the area (just stay away from the casino--ugghhh!).

- Mount Mitchell State Park is a fun and interesting trip (see http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/momi/main.php). Due to some construction on the Parkway, it's temporarily more difficult to get there from Asheville. I think the Parkway is scheduled to reopen sometime this summer, so it should be fine for a fall trip. If not, mark it for a future trip...it's very worthwhile, with spectacular views from the top.

- We really enjoyed the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education (ncwildlife.org/pg08_EducationWorkshops/…8c_1). Lots of exhibits and special programs for groups (like a tour of the fish hatchery--very cool).

Hope this helps...I've done all of the above with our Cubs, and they were a blast for the kids and adults. I'm sure there are many more options--Google can help. Good luck!
