Black Mountain, Boone area

We are staying in the Black Mountain area beginning next Wed. Oct. 20. We will be there through sunday. We are bringing our dog with us and I was looking for places to walk with him that would be fairly flat. He has arthritis and anything too hilly would be too much for him.

Also this is our first time to the area. We are looking to go into Ashville, Boone, Blowing Rock and Black Mountain of course. Anything we shouldn't miss? So excited for our trip!

There is a nice path around Lake Tomahawk in Black Mountain. Here is a link to their greenway system: www.townofblackmountain.org/greenway.htm

Things you shouldn't miss? The Lynn Cove Viaduct on the Blue Ridge Parkway, about mm 304 I believe, would be a good place not to miss. Leaf color was peaking in Boone earlier this week, so it'll be a little brown by the time you get there. Should be pretty lower down in Black Mountain and Asheville, though.

Have a great trip!

Bass Lake, off the BRPnear Blowing Rock is a very popular dog walking spot with zero elevation change. It is about one mile from the Village. Another, more rigorous hike is the Boone Fork Trail which emanates from the Price Lake picnic area right on the BRP. Colors are peaking and the weather looks great.
