Planning a trip for the end of May

We're hoping to find some live music, hiking and some great local food.

Wondering what kind of weather we can expect this time of year?

Can you give me some ideas of places to eat, find great music and places we need to be sure and see while we're there. We prefer places the locals recommend vs places travel guides point you towards.

Also trying to decide between a cabin. a private home or a hotel in a more convenient spot. If anyone has recommendations we'd appreciate those as well. We might spend a few days in the mountains and then a few in town.

Thanks for all of your tips and hints...we're so ready to be there!!

Go to exploreasheville.com and romanticasheville.com for good ideas. weather could be a toss up. Rain and a low of 50 or hot and a high of 90. Be prepared with multiple layers for various situations. Can get cold at night, especially in the higher elevations.

I like the idea of a few days in town and staying at a cabin for 3 or 4 nights. End of May should be delightful weather. In the high 70's at day and high 50's at night. We like Early Girly and Tupelo Honey Cafe downtown to eat. In the arts district we like 12 Bone's for BBQ. President Obama has ate there 3 times when he visits Asheville.

You might want to consider a 2 hour trip to Blowing Rock and Boone. Blowing Rock is a quaint typical mountain town and 6 miles away is Boone, the market center and home of Appalachian State University. Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the beauty this special ares has to offer.

Our favorite pics in the Asheville dining scene are: Curate', Lemone's, Lexington Ave Pub for lunch and beer and the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, for something really special!

Thank You all for the tips. We have been on the websites mentioned in the first response-they have great information. I think we were wanting to make sure that weather was going to be decent for what we are hoping to do while there.

Now...if we can just find direct flights, at a good rate... :)

DIA is always so difficult to find a deal. You can also check Charlotte and Asheville.

It is difficult to suggest places to stay until we know where you are heading. There are many choices.

Weather should be great then and lots of flowers should be in bloom, too. You could always catch a rainy weekend, but in general end of May is a lovely time of year in the mountains.
