Looking for Handmade items

July 26-August 1 I will be looking for handmade crafts and art in the Asheville area. No "made in China" items. Any suggestions of an area with several artisans? Thanks

Those are all excellent. I would also recommend the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway and there are MANY fantastic gallery/studio/workshops in the River District just south and west of downtown...you can park your car and walk from one to the next for almost a continuous mile. Everything from VERY high-quality (and expensive) custom-made belts and leather goods, custom-made acoustical guitars to blacksmiths and, of course, potters and painters. Also, the Kress Gallery and Woolworth Gallery/Lunch counter downtown represent a wide range of local artists and artisans. If you are adventurous, Manual Woodworkers and Weavers is a cooperative of many local artisans and their retail shop offers excellent products. http://www.manualww.com/

Smiley's Flea Market

Address: 5360 Hendersonville Rd, Fletcher, NC 28732

Phone:(828) 684-3532

Has 1000 outside tables and 129 inside shops and tables selling a mixture of junk, antiques and crafts.

Take I-26 to exit 44 for US-25 N toward Fletcher. Less than 1 mile on right.

A few indoor permanent "stores" during the week. Stick to weekend.
