Where to stay in Back Bay?

2 couples are going in August for a weekend of siteseeing and eating. We haven't been to Boston before and we were told to stay in the back bay area.

Which hotels should we look into? Any recs on restaurants and sites to see?

Back Bay is a nice neighborhood offering lots of restaurants and high-end shopping on Newbury Street. You can walk to many Boston attractions such as the Boston Common, Public Garden, the start of the Freedom Trail, and the Prudential Center where you can hop on a Duck Tour ( a must-do in Boston). Jury's is a popular hotel in Back Bay. There is access to the T very easily from any location in Back Bay, and it's close to Rtes. 93, and 90 (MAss Pike).

Great restaurants in Back Bay? You have four steakhouses within walking distance (Grill 23, Morton's, Abe & Louie's and Smith and Wollensky). For seafood I recommend Atlantic Fish Company on Boylston Street, and for drinks head to The Vox on Boylston as well. Have fun.

So many restaurants in the Back Bay...and so little time (and money!)

I've had delicious meals at Piattini, 226 Newbury (Mediterranean) and Parrish Cafe, 361 Boylston (gourmet sandwiches). I second the choice of Atlantic Fish Co., 761 Boylston, and there's also a Legal Seafoods in Prudential Center, Boylston St. side.

Any of the major hotels in Back Bay (Marriott, Westin, Jury's, Copley Plaza, Eliot, Sheraton, Hilton) would probably be just fine for your trip. I'd just check out each hotel's website and see which one is offering the best deals.

As far as restaurants:

Laurel Grill and Bar, on Berkeley St., is a very nice "new American" bistro with excellent food and reasonable prices:

Casa Romero is a high-end, delicious Mexican restaurant, with lovely atmosphere and very good food:

If you are anxious to go to a generic steakhouse chain place, most of the high-end chains have locations in Boston (Capital Grille, Morton's, the Palm, Ruth's Chris, Flemings, Smith and Wollensky)

If you like a slightly different type of meal, Fire and Ice is an "Improvisational Grill", where you pick out your meal from a cold bar of raw meats/veggies/noodles, and a stir fry sauce from another cold bar, and they grill it up for you. It's all you can eat, and you can all have totally different meals, so it's good for picky eaters:

Have fun!
