Coming from Taiwan to see the Sox, need advice

My brother, who has been a true Sox fan since the 1960's(he said he had a lump in his throat when Ortiz hit that homerun!), will be flying in to Logan from Taiwan just to see the Sox play for the first time in his life. Our family of Sox fans, including our 13-year-old daughter, will meet him in Boston for the game (also our first) as we tour the East coast cities this summer.

Is it possible to walk from the Westin Copley Place to Fenway? How long would it take, and which route would be the best? If walking isn't a good idea, what would you suggest? After the Sunday afternoon game, would it be safe to walk back? And where is the best place to get our Sox gear? Thank you all!

Don't think all baseball fans from Taiwan are for the Yankees just 'cuz Wang is on that team---hehe!!

You're in a great location at the Westin, no problem to walk. If you tried to take the subway, you're only one stop away at Copley, and trains are usually packed before and after a game. The hotel should give you a detailed map of the area, and you can walk down Boylston street towards Kenmore square, or a more scenic street would be Commonwealth Avenue- even though it's not as direct by a couple of blocks. You can get souvenirs anywhere, but a true fan experience will be in the shops closest to Fenway Park, plus a great choice of shirt and cap colors, and other memorabilia. You will be safe walking back, and as in any city, be aware of your purse/wallet in the crowds, but I have never had any problems like that. Have a wonderful time!

Small detail: Copley is actually two Green Line stops away from the station nearest Fenway Park (Kenmore.) Be sure to catch a trolley on the B, C, or D line and not the E.

I can't improve on the suggestions for getting there on foot except to advise that you allow about half an hour so you can go at a leisurely pace. The atmosphere as you get closer to Fenway is spirited and fun to get caught up in.

For souvenirs, you can even buy stuff inside the ballpark. Of course the best one would be a foul ball ;-)

The notion of a Sox fan from that far away is intriguing, newspaper material almost!

Thanks for the advice. Maybe we should bring a glove... as we've always BELIEVED, anything can happen at Fenway!
