a brief trip report about our weekend visit to Boston. We are a family of 4 with the kids being 12 and 13.
We stayed at the Langham Hotel which was great. A lovely old building with friendly staff and we had 2 rooms. We ate there for breakfast and the Sunday Jazz Brunch which offered a huge choice of food.
We walked everywhere and only got a taxi to and from the airport. Boston is very easy to walk around and it really is very compact. We thought the taxi ride was cheap seeing as there was 4 of us plus luggage.
Saturday - we did Quincy Market (similar to Covent Garden) which was fun. Lots of food stalls for lunch.
We walked the Freedom Trail over to the navy dock yard and spent a couple of hours around the USS Constitution and the museum there. This was free and included a guided tour which was really interesting.
Back to Downtown and some shopping at Macys and around there.
In the evening we went to watch the Boston Bruins which was amazing. The atmosphere was fantastic and the stadium huge (from a UK point of view).
Sunday we had planned to go to the Frog Pond to do the ice skating but the snow was quite deep and it was closed. We wandered around and discovered it was the last night for Mamma Mia at the Colonial Theatre so picked up 4 last minute tickets. Back for the Jazz Brunch. So much food, we could hardly move afterwards.
In the evening we went to the theatre which was really fun.
Monday - our last day. The snow seemed to have disappeared from a lot of the streets - it is very organised with trucks taking away the snow. We walked to the common and spent an hour trying to stay upright on the skates at the Frog Pond. Good fun and not busy.
Then over to the Prudential Centre to do the skywalk. This was very interesting with an audio tour for both adults and children. Great views over Boston.
More shopping and eating. Then back to the hotel to pick up our bags to fly home.
The weather was freezing. Very very cold but this was the perfect excuse to buy new boots.
To summarise - a great city, friendly people, easy to get around, lots to do for all ages. We would love to go back.
