nightlife with a 7 year old?

Planning on a trip to Boston in late May early June 2008. Can anyone suggest things to do at night with a 7 year old? I've looked at the opera house and wheelock family theater but they don't seem to have a schedule for that time of the year.

The Children's Museum is open until 9 p.m. on Friday as is the Museum of Science so that would be a possibility. Also the MOS has planetarium shows in the evening. I would also keep checking the following websites to see if additional shows are posted: artsboston.org, ticketmaster.com, broadwayacrossamerica.com/Boston

Hanging around Quincy Market and going to Harvard Square are of interest even to 7-year-olds. If there's a pub with acoustic music, go for it. Take them to Blue Man Group - everybody loves that.

A few other suggestions: The Tomb- 5 Wits at Fenway a bit tacky and overpriced but my six year old loved it, a night out to see the Red Sox at Fenway Park but stay in the Family section and do not go if The Red Sox are playing the Yankees. Go to the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) on Thursday night. On Thursday nights it is free and open till 9 PM.

The ICA has a great view of the Boston Harbor then take a nice walk from the ICA to The New England Aquarium which is closed in the evening but the harbor seals are out and about. Take on an IMAX film at the Aquarium or at The Science Museum. On Friday nights, The Boston Children Museum is only $1 from 5-9. It is a great hit for 7 year olds and a must for that age group. Have fun!

Check out this site:

http://www.bostoncentral.com/

It might have more info than you need, but check out the "events listings" and you might be able to find what's going on in May/June. There are also links to the museums, etc. There's also a puppet theater in brookline.

Walking around Harvard Square is fun to do for people of all ages and is especially fun at night. There are bookstores and there's a nice toystore and lots of places for ice cream (and cappuccino for the older folks)... street performers juggle and sign and do various tricks... The train ride there from Boston includes an outdoor stretch with a lovely view.

The Omnimax theater at Museum of Science has shows as night. Also check out the IMAX theater (3D theater) near the Aquarium to see what is playing. These are good options if the weather is rainy.

Hmmm,

I think a lot of these things are not for small kids. I'm voting against the ICA (for any age actually -- sorry ICA!)

Read Make Way for Ducklings, then go find the bronze statues in the Public Garden. Children's Museum a "must", Museum of Science -- good, but she's on the lower end of their audience (avoid the lightning show -- trust me!)

Quincy Market is good -- good kid food and often entertainers who cater to kids.

And when I was 7 I visited Boston and toured the USS Constitution -- and I still remember it (at my age, that's an accomplishment!)

Check out the harbor cruises, at that time of year the days are long, if it's warm you might enjoy a sunset cruise.

Take the blue line to Revere beach (actually Wonderland is a better stop) and grab a bite to eat and stroll the beach.

As for after dark ... not a whole lot that I can think of other than movies ...

Hey LoonMountainMan, your advice is right-on for daytime activities, but the original poster specifically said "night". The USS Constitution isn't open at night and personally, I think the ducklings are a little 'deep' into the Public Garden for a night time visit ....
