French cuisine is pretty easy to find in Boston. My fave place is Aquitaine, located in the South End on Tremont Street. I think it's just down the street from Hamersley's, between Clarendon and Dartmouth.

Petit Robert Bistro has two locations, one in Kenmore Square and the other on Columbus Ave, in the South End. Owned and run by Jacky Robert, of Maison Robert fame these bistros are smaller and feature more rustic, casual dishes than the haute cuisine Maison Robert was famous for.

Bon Appetit!

Petit Robert, La Voile (Newbury St in the Back Bay) or Sel de La Terre (by the Aquarium) would be my picks.

If you opt for dinner instead, I'll throw in Gaslight in the South End.

If you are in the Copley Square area, Brasserie Jo in The Colonnade Hotel is nice. Not haute or upscale, just nice French comfort food.

A relatively new brasserie is Bouchee, at the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth Streets. It's very French (duck confit, rotisserie chicken, haricots verts, frites in paper cones, baguettes and many other French dishes on a menu that looks like a newspaper). Multi-level dining rooms, yellow striped wallpaper with mirrors, posters and prints. Flowers (well, flower) at the table. Outside dining under umbrellas. And they do serve lunch.

Moules à la Provençal, rillettes, raclette, croque monsieur, salade niçoise, onion soup gratinée, escargot, all authentic. Well, you can see for yourself...

I liked Bouchee when I visited - the food was good and the staff really tried hard. I found it amusing that the atmosphere was trying hard to be kind of upscale when in reality a brasserie is basically your local spot - a little weathered, a little cranky, but decent hearty food and a chance to relax.

The owners did a great job with the décor, though. The upper level has large glass windows up front and comfy banquettes.

Personally, if there's moules and frites on the menu, it's a winnnah!

How about Les Zygomates in the Leather District, or Chez Henri in Cambridge?

I recently went to Chez Henri and I felt like I was in France!

There is also Pierrot on Cambridge Street, Beacon Hill.

Find links and more info about the above restaurants here:

Enjoy!
