Cambridge in April-what else should we see, sugg to stay

We are taking our son to colleges in Cambridge and are going to be there from a Thursday to Sunday. Can you give us suggestions on things to see and places to stay.

I suggest you look at the "Things to Do" tab on the left. Cambridge and Boston are pretty interchangable, as far as sightseeing goes.

As for where to stay, it depends on your budget, the schools you plan to look at, etc.

I'd rely on the more detailed reviews here on Trip Advisor, but just to give you an overview of some Cambridge hotel options that might be suitable:

The Charles Hotel is very elegant, has great in-house restaurants, and is right in Harvard Square -- but it can be expensive. Le Meridien in Central Square used to be called something like the "Hotel at MIT" and is just about halfway between Harvard and MIT, in a vibrant (but less student-oriented) neighborhood. In Kendall Square, there is a cute little boutique hotel called the Kendall (in an old firehouse) and a nice Marriott. Both are right near the T station and a 5-min. walk to the MIT campus (though the campus does stretch out quite a bit from there).

All of these are within easy walking distance of T stations, so you can easily get around both Cambridge and Boston. There are also a bunch of well-regarded B&Bs in the leafy residential neighborhoods off of Harvard Yard. Usually this is about a 10-min. walk to the T.

If you're driving in, you can save money by parking at the Alewife T station at the end of the red line, rather than at the hotel. Either way, walking and the T are your best bets for getting around, since driving around Cambridge can be challenging if you are unfamiliar with the area.

And as noted in the previous post, don't forget Boston hotels -- it's a relatively quick trip on the T from most parts of downtown Boston and the Back Bay, and you may be more likely to find a good deal. Staying in Harvard Square might give you more of the on-campus flavor, however.

There's also The Inn At Harvard, right next to Harvard Yard:
