I thought I heard that basically flights over the Atlantic are shut down at the moment. This could make for a very interesting weekend with everyone coming to town for the weekend. People who were planning to fly home to Europe may have to take a side trip to Orlando just to find a hotel room.

May be an American that lives close by will win the Boston Marathon this year, ya think!

I think the last time I actually watched the marathon live there about 92 runners in the race, and possibly one woman running, when women were not allowed to compete. I seem to vaguely recall people cheering the woman.

Even when I lived in the south end, I declined an invitation from my landlord to watch the finish from a second floor party opposite the Pru, because I was working a second job. That was the year Rosie Ruiz "won" so it would have been really cool to have seen that.

Re: volcanic ash...and the Boston Marathon... News ...Boston Athletic Association officials say they have heard from about two dozen runners stranded in Europe, including Abdellah Falil, a Moroccan in the elite field who's waylaid in Paris.

Yeah, this is a bad situation for all those stuck right now and those who had trips planned as well. 17,000 flights cancelled so far? Wow, the biggest disruption of air travel since 9/11 they say.

As far as those poor elite (all the runners actually) who are stranded and trying to make it to Boston..well, they might make it to Boston, but their bodies sure won't be ready to run a marathon after the marathon they're going through. Total bummer for so many travelers.
