Trip Review 7/31-8/5

I'll keep it simple.

Transportation : very simple with 7 day link pass (our only mistake was confusing the subway stops Harvard Ave. and Harvard...big difference :))

Lodging : Back Bay Hotel was excellent. Exceptionally clean and classy. Only draw back was no in-room coffee. They did give free bottled water though, which was nice. Location was good too.

Touristy stuff : We mainly did the Freedom Trail and just explored the different neighborhoods. A 'con' to the Freedom Trail was admission into 3 or 4 of the sites. Prudential Center/Copley Place Mall was very nice, especially if you want to get in out of the sun, or rain. North End was cool to walk around. One of our favorite spots (we have a 2 yr old) was Public Garden. Lines for the swan boats were ridiculous, so instead we just wandered around, fed ducks, etc.

Restaurants : these are all recommended

Parish Cafe

Russell House Tavern

Regina Pizzeria

Giacomo's (the Columbus location)

Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe

Mike's Pastry

Cafe Vittoria (for espresso)

except for:

Thornton's (too busy, staff not very friendly)

Overall, great city. Would come back again!

Thanks a bunch for the TR, MoranFamily!!!

There sure is a big difference between Harvard Ave on the Green Line and Harvard Square on the Red Line. Whoops, lol.

Glad you had a good time in Boston and come on back anytime!!

Succint report! Thanks for posting. For future travelers may I ask a few questions?

Did you book the Back Bay Hotel direct and about how much did the accommodations cost? Were you able to manage the stroller easily on the MBTA? Did you go in to the sites that do charge along the Freedom Trail and if so did you feel it was not worthwhile? Good point about the Harvards. Were there any other pointers you could share?

Did you make it the USS Constitution and the Bunker Hill Monument when you walked the Freedom Trail? They are both free.

Thanks for the Trip Report.

Thanks for a great trip report. I'd love to hear more about how you navigated the city with a stroller. How big is your stroller?
