The Taj, which used to be the Ritz is a very nice hotel. It has a cozy bar. Try to get a seat by the window looking out at the sidewalk unless you prefer the fireplace. The elegant restaurant closed a few years ago, but the Cafe is still there. They also serve afternoon tea upstairs in a lounge.

Nice hotel and especially in December. It is right across from the public garden and at the beginning of Newbury. It is still has the sevice of the ritz.

I would probably eat outside the hotel.....

The lobby is still very lovely, and they do have a wonderful bar that faces the Public Garden. It still has a restaurant too. Be sure to check the reviews of the hotel and the restaurant, on TripAdvisor (not just this forum). This is a really great location, too.
