Union Oyster House vs Summer Shack (Back Bay) for Oysters?

Which is better for Oysters? is there a big price diffrence? Staying near Fenaway w/ no car. Or is there another place near by we have to try instead? Not looking to break the bank - just have a few Oysters and beers. Please inform.

Don't worry about the not having a car part. Subway is convenient and efficient.

As for where to get oysters ... personally I don't eat Oysters on the half shell --- "half shell" sounds better than "raw" ;) -- but my hubby does. Really either place is fine, but if you or a travel companion may want to eat something other than Oysters, the Union Oyster House wouldn't be my first choice.

I wouldn't go to either.

In Kenmore Square, Island Creek Oyster Bar and Eastern Standard are both great for oysters. Neptune Oyster in the North End is great if you find yourself in the neighborhood at an off-time; it's often packed.

Bargain oysters aren't easy to find (expect to pay $2.25-$3 each). Marliave mear Downtown Crossing does dollar oysters between 4-6pm every day.

Between the two choices you listed, I would go with the Union Oyster House. Their oysters are always good, and everyone should go here at least once.

Union Oyster House is not known for its good food, but the oysters are fine and it's worth a visit for its history.

Wow, $3 an oyster? Come on down to the Cape. Daily there's a happy hour at the Oyster Co in Dennisport with 99 cent oysters. I think it's the same at Embargo on Main St. in Hyannis. Check their website. If you come try to make it on a Tuesday so that you can stay for the half priced tapas....items like a big bowl of PEI mussels. Have a yummy time.

As you are from out of town, I sort of agree with LibertyP: have some oysters at the historic Union Oyster House. HOWEVER, there is one VERY important caveat: only have the oysters if you can sit at the actual oyster bar. (The oysters served in the restaurant are pre-shucked.) If you cannot for whatever reason, skip the place entirely.

Otherwise, go pretty much anywhere else already mentioned. The raw bar at Summer Shack is fine. Also, Legal Seafood has a dollar oyster happy hour, I think just Mon-Thurs, but possibly other evenings as well.

We're limited on time , only in town for 2 days to catch a couple games. Is either Union House or Summer Shack a long wait on Friday and Sat late afternoon/early evenings? staying near Fenway.

Both could be a long wait.

You want oysters at the park? Go to the Lansdowne Pub on Lansdowne Street, behind the green monter but closer to center field. They have good oysters there.

Or Citizens Public House and Oyster Bar, right behind Fenway. If you get there at 5 (when they open) you'll beat the crowds, even on game day.

I agree with Veronica, if you're in Fenway anyway, you should try Island Creek Oyster Bar or Citizens Public House. Summer Shack is okay and certainly in a better location for you but food can be a little hit or miss.
