Carson Beach in South Boston

Revere Beach in Revere

But the nicer beaches are on the South and North Shores of Boston. Will you have a car?

3. Re: beaches

Since you'll have a car, I would venture out from Boston and hit some of the beaches either north or south of the city. I live on the South Shore, so I can't help with North Shore beaches, but south of the city, Scusset, Duxbury, Plymouth and Nantasket are all nice beaches.

Good Harbor in Gloucester or other beaches in Cape Ann are also doable:

If a beach charges for access, there is usually a booth at or near the entrance to the beach. Plum Island Reserve north of Boston is very nice.

Another nice North Shore beach, even closer to Boston, is Nahant Beach, also known as Long Beach. When you get to the end of the Nahant Causeway, the entrance is on your left. There's an attendant there to collect the parking fee, which was $3.00 last summer. There's a new restroom/changing facility halfway down the beach and a restaurant right at the entrance.
