short term health insurance in Boston

I have been looking online, and MANY of the companies do not offer the service in Massachsetts, no idea why.

Does anyone know of well-rated short term health insurance options(6 months)?

Thanks!

i don't have a direct answer, but there are indemnity (or major medical/catastrophic) health plans that cover hospital only costs. premiums paid quarterly. if you're relatively healthy and just need something to cover you in case of accidents in between jobs. check blue cross. or are you eligible for COBRA? just an idea, sorry if it's not right.

This is for my wife. She will be going to Boston from Bogota, Colombia. Current insurance is in Colombia. So not between jobs, but she is quite healthy.

Hi Austin,

Here is a website I googled that might answer your questions.

http://www.nriol.net/

They are based in Virginia and here is a phone #:

Medical insurance for visitors to USA/America

International Services, Inc.

#756, 1655 North Fort Myer Drive,

Suite 700

Arlington, Virginia - 22209, USA

(877) 593-5403

Perhaps you can give them a call and they can advise you what they offer.

Here is another one and MA is listed on it:

http://www.insubuy.com/

https://www.visitorsinsurance.com/

Here is a popular travel insurance website that might give you the coverage you are looking for:

http://www.insuremytrip.com/

http://www.travelguard.com/

Good luck, hope these websites are helpful to you. Let us know how you make out!

Welcome to Boston!

Have you spoken to your current insurance provider about your situation?

If she is coming here for work, then deal with Human Resources.

may_zee,

you rock! your information was precisely what we needed. i was able to identify different options available within massachsetts. this was complicated, as many plans, due to the new MA health care laws, exclude MA.

i found a policy for non-US residents on nriol.net that is ideal.

a million thank yous for your advice. in addition to being an occasional poster to travelers coming to Bogota (where i live), you have inspired me to do several good deeds to others simply by your willingness to help folks like me.

onthewater,

thank you for the suggestions. her current employer is in bogota, colombia and does not provide health insurance for the US. she will be doing an informal yet highly academic fellowship, so the hospitals where she will be studying will not provide any health care.

still, i appreciate the brainstorming. all ideas help!

Dear Solabares, just a question about your post. I checked the website that you recommended, but which one did you finally choose? I am in a similar situation (6 months in Boston) coming from Spain. Thank you so much!
