Why are hotels so expensive for these dates?

We are planning to visit June 2 to June5 but all the hotels seem so expensive, especially Marriott properties. Any idea why?

Which mariotts did you look at and what do you consider expensive?

In the meantime look at the midtown or holiday inn beacon hill.

MIT and UMass Boston are holding commencements about that time, and the Boston National College Fair is expected to bring in 16,000 people

What do you consider expensive? I just read that Boston has the highest hotel rates in the US, even higher than NYC. I don't understand why, though.

Try bidding on Priceline, you will probably be able to get a substantial break.

Some events in that time frame: June is LGBT American PRIDE Month

• PRIDE Day at Faneuil Hall Marketplace & Pride Family Fun Day, Spectacle Island, Boston Harbor Islands, June 2

• 33rd Cambridge River Festival, Memorial Drive River to JFK Street ,Charles River, June 2, 2012

AIDS Boston Walk begins DCR’s Hatch Shell Boston, June 3, 2012

• 30th Scooper Bowl nation's largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival, Boston City Hall Plaza June 5-7, 2012

American Transplant convention and Society for Information display. Add commencements and voila, high demand for accommodations.

"Why are Boston hotel prices so high?" -- Supply and demand.... Limited number of hotel rooms, high demand (especially around college graduation time, major sporting events, major conventions), prices the market will bear....

None of us like paying them, but we all want/need to be in-town for whatever reason, so we pay 'em.... (Unless, of course, we're fortunate enough to have a business or corporation who can cover them for us.)

BeantownMan, was that the Cheaphotels report?

If so, that was for the month of May 2012 not for a general year round average. Since we seem to be having a bit of a super peak period this May, it doesn't surprise me but what it covers is very specific.
