Start by looking at the Parker house hotel.

If you're on an iPhone then alan's suggestion will not help. There is a search engine.

Boston is very compact and walkable and no single neighborhood stands out as "the best" for proximity.to general attractions. I would suggest avoiding the convention center area (a bit less convenient) but most other hotel areas are fine.

With an 11 year old, you may really appreciate staying in the Quincy Market/Faneuil hall area, which is also very close to the North End.

The Back Bay neighborhood is also convenient and very pleasant to stroll around.

The Theater District and Financial District areas have a convenient location, but can have more of a generic "big city" feel.

Once you start identifying your "maybe hotels" for your dates, take a look at their locations on Google Maps. Keep in mind that Boston blocks are often very short, so what hat looks like a long-ish distance is often just a pleasant 10 min walk. If in doubt, use the walking directions feature.

Quincy or Quincy market?

Quincy is not Boston. It's another city, slightly south. There are subway stations there but how accessible they are will depend on where your hotel is.

If you mean the Quincy Market area, then it is in the heart of the city, on the Freedom Trail and near City Hall and the North End (Boston's version of LIttle Italy).

Please give us a bit more info so we can best help you. Also, are you driving or flying to Boston ? (If you are flying, you don't need to rent a car if you stay in the city.)
