Hi, your best bet is to check Hotwire or Lastminute travel for better prices. As Boston has great public transportation you don't need to stay right near the Children's Museum. If you check your dates on those sites and find a good price you can check back here for help identifying the hotel.

If you are driving from Wallingford, I would stay outside the city and then drive in and park at the Children's museum, which is how people who live in the suburbs get to the Children's museum.

Lastminutetravel.com is showing the Copley Marriott for $163 for you dates. I can tell by the photos. Another hotel for $167 seems to be one of the Seaport area hotels, maybe the Seaport Hotel or Marriott Renaissance.

As mentioned you don't have to stay near the attractions. Boston is easy to get around by foot and subway.

Unfortunately most hotels will charge $40 or so for parking. You can save a bit by parking yourself in a garage or lot, especially on a Sunday.

If you decide to stay outside the city, one idea is to stay in Winthrop at The Inn at Crystal Cove, and take the ferry to Boston. The Winthrop Ferry is within walking distance from the hotel and operates in the summer. You can then walk to The Boston Children's Museum or the New Engand Aquarium. You may need to take the subway back to Winthrop or call a Viking Cab (a Winthrop taxi company which priovides cheaper rates than the Boston cab companies to Winthrop)

The Inn is not upscale but they have free parking, an outside pool and a kitchen is available. (There is also a local beach within walking distance.)

This way, you can afford to spend a few nights in the area.

Hotels and parking can be expensive (and vary from weekend to weekend) in Boston. The Children's Museum has more affordable options and more parking lots than other parts of the city, and you should be able to find meter parking on Sunday in that area, especially if you are heading their earlier than later (as long at there's not a big event happening).

The InterContinental, Westin Waterfront and Renaissance are the ones that come to mind that are near the Children's Museum. However, you may find it better staying at a hotel outside the city with free parking, and then driving it for the sites you want like other pp have mentioned.

I did a quick check for the Best Western Hotel Tria in Cambridge for the weekend of August 9-11 as a guide. They are showing rooms for $169/night with advance purchase.

This hotel is a short walk or a very short drive to the Alewife Red Line station. From there, you can take the Red Line to South Station where the Children's Museum is located a short walk away. Or the hotel offers a shuttle service to the Red Line. I'm not sure if parking there is free, but if they do charge, it will be a nominal fee and certainly much less than downtown Boston.

Another Best Western option is the Best Western Adams Inn, in North Quincy. They are showing rooms for $165/night for that same weekend, and they have free parking. They are a very short drive, or a short walk to the Red Line at North Quincy, which is a very short trip to South Station. Their website says they also have shuttle service to South Station directly, which might work for you.

Either location will allow you to easily visit the Children's Museum and save some money. Staying within a short walk of the Museum is going to cost you dearly, especially in August.
