Trips for a few days away from Boston then back again

My mum is late 70's and wants to visit my brother in Boston - but then take off for a mini trip - no car - for a few days - preferrably walking - then go back to my brother's again....any ideas - when I search I just get trips TO Boston.

Thanks

While in Boston, there will be plenty of walking tours you can do without having to travel outside. See www.bostoncitywalks.com for some ideas.

So you would travel somewhere by public transportation and then walk? Would this be walking for shopping, to see nature things, historic? Not sure what you are looking for. What are you interested in seeing on your walks?

I guess we are not familiar with the term "walking holiday". The Cape Cod National Seashore has some easy nature trails to walk but it can be cumbersome but not impossible to navigate the area without a car. I know somebody posted a trip report about doing it last fall. I will look for it later.

Hello - over here we have walking groups where you are lead by a leader an there are maybe 10 - 15 of you an they organise trips - they grade the trips from hard to easy. It gives people a great opportunity to be in countryside they on't know - being guide with transport to an from destination an accomodation provided too - for 3 or 4 days. Do you have any trusted groups over there that do that same? That go FROM BOSTON OUT somewhere for a little organised holiday - my mum can easily walk 10 miles a day...
