Breakfast

I see the last couple of posts have been about food so sorry for this one.

We are coming to Boston in Sept for 5 days and starting to plan our days and nights. ( already have Red Sox tickets)

We are staying at the Loews Back Bay on Stuart St and would like to know some possible ideas for a good breakfast before we start our sight seeing.

We like traditional American around the $$ mark.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Surprisingly, there aren't all that many options for a weekday sit-down breakfast, aside from some very nice hotel restaurants. Perhaps it's because real estate costs are so high. I really think neighborhoods outside of Boston (or on the outskirts) have more "mom and pop" breakfast diner options.

Take a look at this other thread from today. It has a few good breakfast options. Your hotel is not far from the other poster's location. tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60745-i48-k673658…

If you want pastries you can go to Flour Bakery around the corner on Clarendon Street. For a full breakfast you could head over to the Paramount on Charles Street. Your hotel may have more suggestions of nearby smaller places.

If you're here on a weekend, lots of places offer brunch, especially on Sundays.

Thornton's is good. If you don't mind a 15 minute walk, or a very short taxi ride, you should also check out Mike's City Diner on Washington St. in the South End. If you are looking for a classic American Diner with 50's music, waitresses who call you "hun" and wear white shoes, and giant stacks of fluffy pancakes and huge omelets, it's the place to go.

If your day will take you to the Back Bay you can have breakfast all day long at Trident Booksellers Cafe on Newbury Street near Massachusetts Avenue. (Bostonians will call it Mass Ave.)

Think diner set up in a bookstore with a great magazine selection too.
