Taxi or T from airport

We are staying near Boston Commons in a couple weeks for a 5 night stay. I know we will use the T quite a bit while we are there. Should we just take it right away or are we better served to take a taxi to our hotel. I hear it is about a $40 ride.

Taxi from the airport to the Common is $30-$40, including tip depending on traffic and exact location. It is less returning to the airport because there is no tunnel toll or 'airport adder' fee.

You could take a,silver line bus from outside your terminal to South Station and then, without exiting the system, switch to the red line and take it to Park Street which is on the edge of the Common. That ride would be free from the airport.

If you tell us where you are staying, we could give you betterdirections.

Since you are here for 5 days consider an unlimited 7 day transit pass. It is $18 per person over 11yo vs $2.50 per ride.

The T is doable and free from the airport. Whether to take the T or cab depends on your budget (free vs 35+)

Also take into account your tiredness, number of bags and time of travel.

If you're exhausted, the cab will beckon.

If you're on the T at rush hour with steamer trunks, not so great. If it's evening or midday or a weekend and you've got manageable bags, that's better. At Park, get off on the middle (left) side, where the elevator is.

If you want to save money, the T is the way to go. The cab is easy and can be quick, depending on traffic.

You are paying for the convenience and speed of a Taxi, so you decide what's more important to you: Time or Money?

We are staying at the Hyatt Regency at Avenue de Lafayette. We are definitely going to get the pass as I am sure we ride the T quite a bit during the trip.

I used to be a committed taxi taker into town. Then we re-ordered our travel budget priorities system so to speak and started using the T since our folks live quite close to either a Blue Line or a Red Line stop giving us a cornucopia of good choices. And if we have a normal amount of luggage and our overseas flight was relatively on time and painless then its really easy and requires very little effort. Your hotel is literally steps away from a Red Line stop (see google map https://goo.gl/maps/IOSzh ). So taking the Silver Line from the airport to South Station and walking the few steps right on to the trolley platform (direction Alewife) can be a very easy and free way to do it.

The hotel is not far from a T station and it's a crowded neighborhood. If you can handle taking the T with your luggage, then do it.

Did I miss your description of how much luggage you will have with you?

No luggage => T

Much luggage => Taxi

Only you know the sweet spot: how much luggage determining T or Taxi

If you are staying on Ave. de Lafayette, the closest T stop on the Red Line is Downtown Crossing, not Park. The best exit from the station is to Chauncey St., altho there is no elevator at that exit.

Good catch. I'd put Park because in the original message OP says it's near the Common. ave de L is closer to DTX
