Scenic route New York to Boston

I know there are several scenic routes from New York to Boston. We have six days and we like to get away from the larger, beaten track routes. After a month in New York we're looking for more quaint and rural. We're weighing our options: Cape Cod/Martha's Vineyard or Vermont/ Connecticut/Massachusetts. Help!!

How about the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts?

Can you suggest some towns worth visiting in the Berkshires?

Sure. Lenox, Stockbridge, Lee for starters.

need more info. Are you looking to stay in one place? When? Mountains? Ocean? Lakes? You certainly could go to many places 3 or 4 hours north to vt and have same drive down to Boston.

New York to Boston -

Here are two options that I enjoy.....

Coastal - Go via Long Island, NY & The Hamptons then take a ferry or two to New London, CT stop in Mystic, CT & Westerly, RI

Or

Go via the Berkshires - Lemox & Sturbridge (Norman Rockwell. The Mount, Tanglewood)

If you go through the Berkshires, the Clark Art Institute and MassMoCA are worth a stop as well as what's been mentioned. Tanglewood is the summer home of the BSO. Williamstown is very pretty and if there in the summer, the Summer Stock Theater there is worth a look. You could then drive Rt 2 to Boston.

I think Remay meant Stockbridge, rather than Sturbridge.

Yes, thanks Alan! Stockbridge not Sturbridge (and Lenox not Lemox - keyboard issues and old age....!)
