Are you coming in on a weekday or weekend? There is a large parking garage under Boston Common which is centrally located, and next to Red and Green line T stops. The rates will depend on when you are coming in.

The Boston Common Underground Garage is $22 a day during the week and $12 on weekends, although they are slated to rise later in the summer.

Yes; you can park car at Riverside MBTA stop in Newton, just off the Mass Pike via Route 128 south, or at the Alewife MBTA in Cambridge off Route 2. Then take the T into town. We drove in to the Boston Common garage on a Nov Saturday only to find it full and had to pay much higher rates elsewhere. So if you have the time to do it, Riverside and Alewife are good deals. I guess they could be full too; not sure how you can find out before arriving.

Riverside MBTA stop is a good suggestion you can take the Green Line train into town about a 35 minute ride
