First trip to Boston next week!

Hello -- We are suddenly headed to Boston next week (july 2014) and have never been. We have no idea where to stay with our teenaged son -- people suggested back bay, and we've looked at the fairmont on the warf -- where you can take a water taxi from Logan?. Where to stay, what to do (besides the liberty trail) suggestions most welcome? Three days in the city..

Boston is a small compact city. You can check out hotels in back bay, downtown, quincy market, etc. You can take a regular cab to any hotel. The "liberty" trail is actually the freedom trail. Check out the suggested Boston activities listed here on trip advisor. Definitely have dinner in the north end one night.

Catch a game at Fenway if you're a baseball fan. It's not the most fan friendly (less than fabulous sightlines, etc) but it is a great experience from a historic perspective.

Even though you are only going to be there for 3 days, I'd suggest a T pass (Link pass). It was $18 for a week when we were there in June. We broke even by the 2nd day (considering a $5 ride from the airport on the express bus) and didn't even use it for every trip we took.

We are partial to Back Bay/Copley square hotels - The Fairmont and The Lenox. Both are conveniently located.
