If you've never been to the city and you don't know where you are going, I'd start out on the Trolley. You can always get off if you are in a neighborhood that interests you, and just walk around at that point.
That was my thinking. We have never been to Boston - so much to see, so little time! Thanks!
Trolley, without a doubt. My favorite stop is USS Constitution. Followed by Bunker Hill monument. You'll know you've been to Boston, and there are lots of fun options on the way back.
You will love the trolley tour take plenty of pictures.
Thank you for the replies...for some reason, I am just now seeing them on trip advisor. I've seen the Old Towne trolley tours and the Upper Deck Trolley tours. Is there a preference?
The way I understand it, your are better off using the company with the most trolleys in circulation so that there is less wait for the next one. I don't know if there is a way to find this information out, but I'm leaning toward Old Towne, because they seem to have been around for a long time.
