Where to park this Saturday at Backbay?

A family trip to Boston for Saturday and Sunday. We will stay at the Sheraton in Backbay for Saturday night. I did some online search and found overnight parking near the hotel costs $30+. For Saturday we plan to arrive around noon and spend the afternoon at backbay. On Sunday, we will head to Cambridge and spend the day there.

I have two options:

1. Park my car near the hotel then drive to Cambridge Sunday morning and park it somewhere.

2. Park my car out-of-town and use subways to get around. We have 4 adults and 1 toddler.

Which way is better?

Neither. Drop everybody off at the Sheraton and then park your car in the Boston Common Underground Garage and walk back. Take the T Bus #1 to Cambridge on Sunday. It runs up Massachusetts Avenue.

I agree with Alan. The Common GarAge is $14 or $15 for 24 hours on weekends

Thanks. I found the rate at $18/day. Not bad.

I want to spend Sunday at Harvard. If I drive my car to Cambridge Sunday morning, is it hard to find a street parking? Is street parking at Cambridge free on Sunday?

Early Sunday you will probably find something on the street near Harvard Square. I'm pretty sure you will find something up on Mass. Ave. north of the square. I don't know what it's like south of the square. On Sunday you might even find something on the "alphabetical" streets in Back Bay especially up by Essex to Hereford.

I think Cabinet means Exeter Street, not Essex.

I agree to drop your family off at the Sheraton and then park. Personally Boston Common Garage is a little far for me from the Sheraton when there's a lot of parking garages closer. Yes, you may spend a few more $, but not too much more and you get more time exploring the city instead of walking 15-20 mins back.

There is an open lot directly across from the Sheraton/Hilton on Belvidere street. If you have a large SUV or large vehicle you may not want to park there because it's an open lot and spots are really tight, but on the weekend you may not have anyone next to you. (It's been awhile since I've parked there too). Not 100% the price, but that's your closest option (and the garage above King's on Dalton Street-- but I think the open lot is cheaper). Obviously the Prudential Garage too, but that's really expensive.

Parking is free on Sundays, and you can find a free spot in the Back Bay definitely before 10am, and later. I'm not sure about Cambridge, but meters are free there too.
