Cheaper Hotel options available in San Diego

Hi,

I am planning to attend a conference in San Diego and was wondering if there are cheap (3-4*) hotels available near the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina which is the venue of the conference as I am not sure of the options available in terms of public transportation since I do not drive.

Any suggestions that the group might have are appreciated in terms of what are the available properties around the area or something a little further away but with public transport access or walkable distance to the Sheraton.

Thanks in advance.

What is your price range? Most anything within cabbing distance is going to be in the $150 range. Certainly less expensive than the Sheraton, but not what I would consider cheap. ;)

The problem is that without a car, getting to and from Harbor Island (where the conference is taking place) is really difficult. There are lots of hotels downtown, but our public transportation is not very good away from downtown, so it's very time consuming. There is a city bus that goes from the airport to downtown about twice an hour, though - #992, then it's about a half mile from the airport to the Sheraton. Very busy road, though. There's also Bus #923 that runs from Harbor Island to downtown about every half hour, that also might be an option.

The walk to and from downtown is about two miles, and relatively easy along the bay, but I don't know if you'd want to commit to that walk twice a day.

There is a Hilton also located on Harbor Island, that might be cheaper. If you want to look at hotels downtown, I would need a price range to help you further, but any 3-4 * hotels would be comparably priced with the Sheraton.

Hi,

I would be looking for something in the range of 100-120 USD. Dont think I would be up to the mark for a 2 mile hike twice a day though, so I guess the bus option is the best.

Unfortunately for San Diego, that price range is very low - In that price range, you might get a 2* downtown. A couple that would be an easy walk from the bus route would be the Porto Vista and La Pensione, both in our Little Italy area of downtown, a nice, safe area with lots of restaurants. You could also check on the Holiday Inn on the Bay (not with similar sounding names) right on Harbor Drive downtown. None of these would be greater than a 2* though.

How about the Holiday Inn Bayside? I don't know your travel dates but during the week it's less expensive. There are many Holiday Inns in San Diego but this is the one located at 4875 N. Harbor Dr.

Would be about a $5 cab ride I'd think. There's also a bus that would save you a couple dollars but be less convenient.

Those HOliday Inns are not usually $100. the only one that low might be La Pensione. Your only choice downtown at that price is to try to bid on www.priceline.com If you have never done ti before then first go to www.biddingfortravel.com to learn how to do it. My son just got a 4**** hotel in San Francisco over Thanksgiving for$60 on priceline.
