somewhere between anaheim and san diego?

We're staying in San Diego (downtown) and have friends who want to meet us for dinner on a Friday night somewhere in between SD and Anaheim, where they live. Any suggestions? I would like something scenic or something near something cool to see (if that makes sense!). And if you have specific restaurant suggestions, also welcome. Thanks!

Spend a day driving up to Laguna Beach...Have dinner at Studio at Montage Resort

Drive to Temecula....and have dinner at Thornton Winery.

You could drive up earlier to do some wine tasting.

Its about a 90 minute drive from Anaheim; similar from San Diego (you will want to drive up earlier to be ahead of work traffic.).

Afterwards go to Pechanga and enjoy seeing a comedy club act before ending the evening.

Dana Point and Laguna Bech are both coastal communities and are about 15 minutes apart from each other. Either place would be great for dinner.

DP is aboout 1 hour north of San Diego and Laguna Beach is about 1 hour and 15 minutes north of SD.

DP and LB are about 45 minutes to an hour south of anahiem.

I think there are more places to eat in LB than there are in DP.

You can go on the LB forum and click on restaurants to view eating places.

I agree with the drive to Laguna Beach. A good place for dinner or lunch would be Las Brisas. The restaaurant is located in the downtown area and on the oceanfront so that you could spend your time walking through this lovely city and have a nice meal with a spectacular view.

IF you want to drive a shorter distance along the coast then you could meet in San Clemente which has a restaurant on the pier.

Laguna Beach is definitley scenic! I think you would enjoy a meal at "hush" in Laguna, we dined here this past July when we spent the 4th in Laguna Beach with 3 of the kids. I have a review of our time there. Sapphire also has excellent food in a fun, buzzy ambiance. The Studio at the Montage is amazing but very pricey, we celebrated our 25th anniversary here. There is also The Loft @ the Montage which is a little less expensive, we had a very dinner here this past July.

If you are looking for something casual, Las Brisas is a great suggestion, they make a really nice Stuffed Sole here and the views are very pretty here. Splashes @ the Surf and Sand Resort is another place to consider with excellent food and pretty views of the beach and ocean.

Enjoy your time in the beautiful area of Southern CA and let us know how it goes! :)

Agree with Laguna Beach can't advise on specific restaurants with a view other than Las Brisas which has a great ocean view, but you can't see it if dark wich is 5PM-ish now. When are you coming?

San Clemente is just off the freeway and about as central between Anaheim and San Diego as one can get. Dana Point is just northwest of San Clemente, and Laguna Beach is a bit further away on Pacific Coast Highway (for you) or Highway 133 (for your friends).

Right, San Clemente will minimize total combined driving as it is right off of I-5. Laguna Beach, while very nice is not on the direct route between Anaheim and San Diego.

Another idea is San Juan Capistrano. There are some well reviewed restaurants near the Mission which is well worth visiting. See tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g33022-San_Juan_… and tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g33022-d12…
