Areas to stay if renting a house or Condo

We are thinking of visiting San Diego in mid November. We are looking on vrbo.com to rent a house or condo as it is easier with two small children. Are there areas that are better to stay with small kids (3 and 8 months)? Are there areas to avoid?

Also, how is the weather in mid November? It is still beach weather?

Well what are you looking to do with your kids? Do you want to stay close to the beach...or is a 5-10min drive fine with you. Also are you looking to be closer to San Diego proper or do you care if you are more North?

Weather in November is generally sunny but temps hover in the 60s and the water is quite chilly.

Hi ijanis, Welcome to the forums.

You can count on temps in the 60sF during the day and IF you are luck it might creep up to 70F.At night the temps drop soooo you'll need sweatshirts, sweaters, etc

The beach is fine for walking, sandplay etc. The water will be in the 50sish.

You can find lots of condos at the beach at decent prices but you can also find some hotels that have suites and breakfast and heated pools which might be nice at that time of year.

IF you will also be renting a car then you have lots of choices of areas. You can find something you like on vrbo or any other site and then just tell us the address and we'll help you decide.

Areas with lots of rentals include Mission Bay,Mission Beach,Pacific Beach for a start.

Thanks for all your responses and help! We will be renting a car as well, as we want to go to the zoo, Sea World, legoland and any other attractions we have time for. So if there is a more 'kid friendly' area, we are flexible.

Not sure what would make the areas more kid friendly for you. These are scenic areas and Mission Bay Park has miles of greenspace and some playgrounds for the kiddos. Restaurants around town are all very informal.

Other areas might also be La Jolla Shores with a beach that has grass and a small playground.

Away from the beach there are lots of places where you could also find playgrounds parks etc. This is a very outdoorsy town with lots of parks and outdoor spaces/playgrounds etc. La Jolla extends from the ocean to I-5 and some condos east of I-5 say they are in La Jolla too. The area east of I-5 and north of rte 52(please look on a map) is chock full of condos, parks, malls, restaurants etc. and young families soooo you have lots of choices.

The Mission Beach area is very family friendly. It's near many attractions that kids would like, and centrally located to downtown San Diego, etc. LaJolla is a very nice beach community just north of San Diego; it's probably pricier than Mission Beach, but extremely nice. Have a nice trip. And, the weather is always nice in San Diego. Naturally, the beaches are cooler than mid-July, but it's still a pleasant place to be. Regarding places to avoid: I don't think there's much just south of San Diego worth visiting with a family - definitely not Tijuana. And, I'd choose Mission Beach and LaJolla for a family vacation over Pacific or Ocean Beach, but that's just my opinion.
