If you like fish taco, you should check out the first Rubio's (a chain fast food restaurant) that "invented" the fish taco. Also worthwhile if you have younger kids (under 12) is Legoland. Rides are a lot miilder and there are lots of activities for younger kids -- not to mention LEGOs. Disneyland is also only 1 hour drive away.

When we last went with our young kids, we just bought a membership to the Zoo and went to both the Wild Animal Park and Zoo for 6 days straight. This way, we didn't feel like we had to spend the ENTIRE day to get our money's worth. We could feel free to go in the morning, let them nap and then go back the next day.

Definitely plan a couple days at the beach, look at La Jolla Shores, it's a great family beach with a park, lifeguards, bathrooms, easy waves. The beach at Coronado is another good one for families, you can combine it with a visit up to Cabrillo National Monument for some history and views.

A cruise around San Diego Harbor is always fun. The USS Midway is docked there as well and is now a museum i believe.

We spent our spring break in San Diego with our two kids, and we are returning again for next spring break, it is our favorite place in the world!

If you belong to Cosco, they have the best prices on the San Diego 3 for 1 card, which is unlimited admission for 7 days to Sea World, the Zoo and the Safari park. It totally paid for itself with us, we really loved Sea World and the Zoo, Also, because the zoo is in Balboa park, my husband went to some museums with our older son, while I took our little girl back to the zoo again. It was nice to pop in for even short repeat visits (we did the same with Sea World)

None of us liked Legoland as well as Sea World, I'm not really sure why. We all loved Coronado beach, and our very favorite beach was recommended to us on this forum. It was in Del Mar and had something for all of us - more than 20 trains (Amtrak, Freight, Coaster) pass by (so my son was thrilled), there is a great kids play area overlooking the ocean, and the beach itself was very nice.

Depending on where you stay (we stayed at The Homewood Suites in Liberty Station - highly recommend it!), our kids loved The Corvette Diner for dinner. Very fun, and good food! We liked Liberty Station in general, so close to everything and lots of great restaurants.

The above suggestions are great; but if you are planning on visiting in the next month or so, just know that Safari Park in Escondido will be hot because it's inland. Please check the weather forecast first.

Have fun in beautiful San Diego! It is a wonderful city indeed!

Just down the Embarcadero from the Midway is the Maritime Museum of SD - a collection of ships you can walk through. There are a couple sailing ships, submarines, a ferry, etc. www.sdmaritime.org Pretty cool for a few hours.

It's worth the time to plan Balboa Park ahead a bit. There are a ton of museums, some very kid-friendly (science center, air & space museum, auto museum (love the old cars!), model railroad) and others less so (art museums, photography), although of course it depends on your own kids' interests. www.balboapark.org
