MCRD Graduatin What hotels?

I'm going to Marine boot camp graduation on May 12. Does anyone know what the Howard Johnson Sea world is like. Any other good hotels in the area? I don't want to spend more than $125. What about the Red Lion Hanalei ?

I would look at the Old Town or Little Italy areas - not very far at all from the MCRD, but close to lots of other attractions, and walking distance to restaurants and sights for the evenings. A few that I would look at - La Quinta in Old Town, Super 8 Bayview in Little Italy. Both of these locations are nicer than the Seaworld hotels, or the Mission Valley Hotels. Although the Red Lion Hanalei is nice it is in an area of Mission Valley known as Hotel Circle - virtually surrounded by freeways. Okay area, but not the best area to stay if you want to enjoy yourself and not have to drive to dinner every evening.

Where did you end up staying? Our son just went in, so I'm starting my search now for a hotel for the graduation...recommendations? or places to stay away from?
