Airport to Coronado Shores

When I ask for directions, on Google Maps, from the airport to Coronado Shores it gives me instructions to take I5. When I look at the map it seems taking Harbor Drive would be much shorter and more direct. Will we be okay taking Harbor Drive?

The easiest way to get onto the Coronado Bay Bridge is from I-5.

You can take Harbor Blvd. for a while, but you should get onto I-5 after the Downtown area to get onto the Bridge.

You can do both.

This isn't really accurate:

"You can take Harbor Blvd. for a while, but you should get onto I-5 after the Downtown area to get onto the Bridge."

If you've already gone through Downtown on Harbor Dr you are 2 minutes to the onramp to the bridge and there is no need to find the 5 Fwy. Just stay on Harbor to Caesar Chavez Parkway for a couple of blocks to the bridge onramp. If you want to get on the 5 Fwy you want to do it BEFORE you go through downtown.

The quickest would be to take Harbor to either Laurel or Grape and turn left and get on the 5 Fwy South. However, there are certain times of the day where the traffic is backed up on Harbor with traffic waiting to make that left turn at Laurel & Grape. Laurel is usually better of the two.

When I worked on Coronado and would need to go to my boss' house (just past the airport) on my way back to the office I would sometimes just take Harbor Dr all the way (past the Convention Ctr) to the onramp to the bridge. It would depend on the time of day and how busy Harbor Dr was.

Thanks for the reply. I zoomed in a lot closer on Google maps and see that you can only get on the bridge from the I5. It seems the I5 would be much quicker than Harbor Drive as HD goes through the downtown area.

Lovely, Yes, I5 is the quickest route.

But, no, you don't 'have' to get on the I5 for the bridge. I was just pointing out that you 'could' take Harbor Dr to Caesar Chavez and get on the bridge w/o getting on I5.

Since you're going to be here for a month it is another option for getting to Downtown.

Elizabeth, this is a better map so I'm going to print if off and take it along. Thanks.

It's nice to have alternative routes while you're here.

I believe you mentioned going to the Padres game at PetCo Park. Here's an easy quick route w/o getting on the Freeway. And it takes you straight to a very large parking lot that might work out for you. When you get to Imperial Ave you will see it. I just drove that route on Wednesday.

BTW - I just looked at google and the route that came up isn't the most efficient. The best route is to turn on Laurel and take it to Kettner and then turn left on Grape and hop on the freeway there.

The route that google gives has you on Laurel and turning onto Pacific Hwy going North - in the opposite direction to Coronado.
