We arrive midday Sat. 5/25. We'll have Sunday, Monday (Memorial Day), Tuesday and Wed. We first stay at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina for 2 nights, then transfer on Monday to Residence Inn Scripps/Poway. I'd like ideas on how to structure our time. Our kids are 5 and 8. We've settled on visits to USS Midway, Sea World (will have 2 days of tickets but only paid for one), San Diego Zoo, and Cabrillo Monument, with hopefully a visit to La Jolla for part of a day. Checking out on Thurs. we will have all morning to get to Anaheim for our afternoon checkin. We will have a car. I'm concerned about parking and traffic at the major attractions on the holiday weekend. I'm trying to hold arrival on Sat. open for getting the lay of the land and just taking in the views. We're not interested in the Gaslamp but Old Town and Balboa Park both sound appealing.
The kids really want the experience of seeing tidal pools, but will the tides cooperate?
I'm thinking since that is beach related we should perhaps save Cabrillo for Wed. rather than the weekend?
Is it feasible to combine La Jolla with a visit to Cabrillo or with our checkout day on Thurs?
Which attractions might best absorb holiday crowds on Sunday and Monday since it's not feasible to avoid them altogether?
Will driving to the Midway prove to be a hassle? We don't mind paying for parking, but I don't want to spend all morning searching for a place to park. Is any one time better for parking than another?
Is driving to Anaheim feasible along the PCH midday? Or will that add a lot of time to the trip.
Please give me your 2 cents.
