Yes, it's a very good location! I live in the north end of Downtown and Little Italy is my go to place to eat usually. It's had a recent restaurant boom which is nice. You can walk from Little Italy to the center of Downtown in approx 20 mins

A taxi would be approx $5 - $7 and a 5 mins drive.

You can take the light rail trolley for $2.25 one-way. Depending on where your final destination is either the Green Line to the Gaslamp or the Green and connect to the Orange or Blue. That too would take about 20 mins or so depending on if you have to wait for a connection from the Green to Orange or Blue.

Curious as to what hotels you've found that interest you in Little Italy.

la pensione is one of them.gets decent reviews and comes in at a decent price.we will only be in san Diego for two nights so won't be spending much time in hotel,as we will be exploring city.we will have a car with us and this hotel has parking at a fee.

La Pensione is a great location. Right in the heart of Little Italy and the Trolley stop is on Beech Street which is only 3 blocks away. The LP is on Date St.

It's also nice to be able to walk to the bay just a few minutes away. Also on Harbor Drive you can pickk up the 992 bus which will take you to Broadway St downtown and makes several stops

Most hotels in large cities have a fee for parking. The ones downtown will cost you about $30 per night.

La Pensione is less than that!! You might be able to find free street parking over night in that neighborhood if you prefer.

There are certainly some inexpensive motels that may offer free parking as well.

The Old Town Inn is one of them but I like the location of La Pensione better.

There are of course many Italian restaurants and shops in Little Italy.

Walk over and see this church which is beautiful on the inside: yelp.com/biz/our-lady-of-the-rosary-catholic…

Little Italy is a short, easy walk to the waterfront, where the Star of India (the world's oldest working ship) is at, the USS MIdway Museum and other ships are.

Just a short ride on the San Diego Trolley north to the Old Town area of San Diego, and you can walk from Little Italy to downtown San Diego, or take the San Diego Trolley south to the Gaslamp station if you want to visit the Gaslamp Quarer.

It's also possible to walk from Little Italy to Balboa Park but it's a fairly long walk and uphill for part of the way.

Little Italy has their "Mercado" (Farmer's Market) on Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm, along Date Street.
