Best beach for families in San Diego area

Planning a family reunion & trying to figure out the best beach area in the San Diego area (including La Jolla & LJ Shores, Pacific Beach, Mission Beach & Bay, others?). We have 12 in our party, with kids ranging in age from 1-11, as well as parents & grandparents. Any suggestions?

Are you asking about just the beach itself to meet for the reunion or where to stay?

Given the dynamics of your group my first though was Coronado. Both to stay there or to have a beach reuniion. Always less crowded and easy to find parking. The beach is wide, white and beautiful. And the waves are generally tamer then other beaches. If you stay there there are plenty of restaurants and some cute shops.

This is the website for the Hotel del Coronado. Even if you don't stay there (it is expensive) it will show you the beach. And the beach is only one block from the Village. Well, I now see they've changed their website and it's hard to see the beach

Do you need a grassy area to set things up or are you going to have the festivities on the sand? If you want grass, La Jolla Shores is ideal because you have a park, a beach, and parking lot all right there (but be aware that the parking lot is crazy busy in the summer months).

Hi,

I agree that we are a bit confused as to whether you are asking about hotels or the beach itself?? This web site gives a good overview of some of both:

Please let us know more info as to:

When you are coming?

Do you need hotel/vacation rental?

What is your budget?

What other amenities do you need?

The more you tell us the more intelligently we can help you.

Sorry for the confusion. Trying to rent a house in one of the above areas for a family reunion for 13 people (kids from ages 2-11). Based on budget, house type & availability (mid Aug), I found a place on Sail Bay (Mission Beach area -- bay side) (love Coronado but too expensive and tricky with a group this size). Hope that is going to be an ok selection!! Any suggestions or comments about the Sail Bay area appreciated.

Thank you!

Sail Bay is part of Mission Bay Park and a lovely area. Where exactly is the house as the bay has 3 sides? You can see location on google maps to see where restaurants /grocery are located in relation to your rental.

If you want to be within walking distance to any restauants, cafes, etc. the location of the rental will matter.
