Family friendly Good food near Ocean Park Inn

We will be staying at Ocean Park Inn at the end of Aug. we love Mexican food and would love any suggestions of where would be somewhere family friendly within walking distance of our hotel. Otherwise any other suggestions??

I have also heard about Phil's Ribs? I know they don't take bookings I am not sure if its worth driving to and waiting in line to eat ribs with my children (8,6).

I am really just looking forward to chilling out, having a few drinks on our balcony and finding some good food not too far away :)

Thanks in advance

For a low key meal you can walk practically next door to Konos. Many folks line up there for a Mexican breakfast and take the food to their outside terrace to eat.

In the other direction you'll find The Green Flash(seafood, hamburgers).

IF you want one upscale meal then JRDNs at the Tower 23 hotel is a good choice.

I imagine that you'll also be out and about doing activities so you might very well be near Phils BBQ during the day for lunch. Here's one not far from Mission Bay Park where Sea World is located:

Here's a map that shows your hotel and restaurants that are nearby:

There are many more farther from the beach.

It looks like Alberto's is the closest Mexican. I don't know it or if it's any good. Just about all the restaurants are family friendly and very casual.

You can always call Phil's and order food to go. Then just walk in and pick it up w/o waiting in line and then take it back and eat it sitting on your balcony enjoying the view. My family doesn't like Phil's ribs at all. We've tried their ribs more than once. It really depends on what type of BBQ you like and are used to. We're in the minority. You might want to give it a try. Walking distance from where you are staying is Tony Roma's. Haven't eaten there in years.

As you can see from the maps, there are a good number of restaurants in general and Mexican more specifically. They range from taco stands to nice, though casual, restaurants. I would certainly avoid Taco Bell. It's a national chain and not very good. Rubio's is also close (local chain) and makes good Baja style fish tacos at good prices. For me, I would pass on Phil's primarily due to the wait. I like the food but standing in line for one hour with kids not worth it. Personally, I'm a fan for the PB Alehouse. Some good micro-brew beer and appetizers after a day at the beach. Though later in the evening gets to be more rowdy.

Enjoy your visit to SD.

Good local places to eat in PB:

Kono’s – breakfast & lunch only (Boardwalk)

The Eggery – Nice place for breakfast and lunch (Mission)

World Famous – A favorite of mine and many others (Boardwalk)

Tower 23 / Jordan – Probably the best food at the beach (Boardwalk)

Thai Village – My favorite Thai in the area (Mission)

Surfside Sushi – Thumbs up from many of my Japanese friends (Mission)

Cass Street Bar & Grill - Great food and also a local hangout (Cass)

Kafe Yen Asian Cuisine – Good Asian mixed (Garnet)

Firehouse Café – Recently remodeled, good food and a mixed crowd

Ramiro's – Fast-food Mexican, the chicken burrito! (Mission)

Marino’s – Mom and Pop Italian, my favorite in SD (Ingraham St.)

Costa Brava – Great happy hour with Spanish tapas – (Garnet)

Cafe 976 – My favorite coffee shop (Cass)

The Fishery – Considered one of the best places for fish in San Diego (Cass)

I think just walking around Pacific Beach you'll find places to try.

I am assuming (hoping) you'll have a car to stay there, otherwise getting around can be time consuming.

Nearby Mexican places to look at are Oscar's Mexican Seafood, La Perla Cocina Mexicana, La Playa Taco Shop and Bahia Don Bravo (not walkable, but in Bird Rock on the way to La Jolla).

In La Jolla I like old school Su Casa Mexican Restaurant and El Pescador Fish Market.
