Help! Food & Things to See near Pacific Beach/La Jolla?

Hi All,

This has to be my go to place... Phone book just doesn't cut it.

I'm using the rest of TA also for San Diego, but trying to stay close to where I am staying and having trouble.

Staying in or on the edge of Pacific Beach neighborhood.... Not quite in La Jolla but on the west side of I-5...

Called a couple of pizza places to order and got told I was out of the delivery location, as I'm somewhere between the norms of La Jolla and Pacific Beach.

So staying in that area I need suggestions please for....

Pizza? Local or natural gourmet, not big chains please

Coffee? Anything local thats not a huge chain

Bakery/dessert? Awesome stuff please not just normal bread type bakery

Ice cream or gelato? Not a chain, local... Not frozen yogurt please.

Cupcakes, I know about Sprinkles, any others??

Is there a beach where dogs can go, small poodle??

Regards to that, favorite pet shop, again high end, no big chains.

Somewhere close to where I am that has good access for the views to the ocean, for photography... With easy or convenient handicapped parking??

Thanks in advance!

Can you be more specific about where you are located? nearby streets???

There are dog beaches at Ocean Beach and in Solana Beach not in La Jolla or Pacific Beach.

For pizza, here is a topic from earlier this year when TripAdvisor named San Diego the Best Pizza City in America.

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g60750-i41-k710652…

Most of the good ones probably don't deliver. but click the links to the San Diego Magazine articles.

The Baked Bear in Pacific Beach has people lined up out the door for their ice cream.

Dogs can go on Dog Beach in Ocean Beach.

Cupcakes are so 2005, waffle sandwiches are the hot coming item. Look for a Bruxie or Gaufre near you soon.

Desserts, Extraordinary Desserts in Hillcrest and Heaven Sent in North Park. Bakeries look at Bread & Cie in North Park and Con Pane Rustic Breads in Liberty Station and in PB, Charlie’s Best Bread or The French Gourmet. On the sweet side look at Sugar & Scribe.

Ahh, yes, you are in the Mount Soledad area (near Kate O. Sessions Park, I believe you mean). Try going to grubhub.com You can enter your address and it will let you know what restaurants near you deliver or do take-out services. Most places in Pacific Beach should be responsive. Especially if you explain where you are (even if they say "no" then ask them for recommendations!).

I really like the Gelato Bus Stop on Garnet for gelato too. Looks like, riff & scott took care of your dog friendly beach question.

I assume you have a car.

The French Gourmet in PB for desserts and bread.

Bird Rock Coffee Roasters in LJ for coffee.

My favorite bread is from Prager Brothers, but they only sell at some farmer's markets like the Sunday Hillcrest FM and from their kitchen in Carlsbad.

For another coffee place in PB I like Cafe 976. Cute place, local.

Carino's has good pizza in La Jolla. If they won't deliver to you, dine in. In Pacific Beach, I favor Hoboken Pizza (they won't deliver).

Coffee--agree with Bird Rock Roasters in Bird Rock.

For 'sweet' breakfast (i.e. best French Toast) with great coffee, try The MIssion in Pacific Beach--they get a proprietary blend from Cafe Moto.
