Best part to stay in for family San Diego visit

My family is taking our first trip to San Diego for a week in August. We have 2 kids, 10 and 15. We are looking into renting a small house or a condo and it seems there are a lot of options.

Right now we see there are places available a few blocks west of Balboa park as well as south of there. We have also looked at some places that are quite a bit further north and east. At this point we have no idea where should really be targeting.

For some background we will probably take a trip to the beach but we are not huge beach people so being right next to the beach is not a big priority for us. We would like to be near to as many things as possible but not so close that we can't sleep because of noise at 4am. We will probably go out to eat a bit,

Any advice you could provide would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

IF you could provide links to the rentals you are considering it would make it easier for us to give you advice about them. I am not sure which things you'd like to be near as this is a large spread out city with things to see and do in many different areas? Rentals away from beaches will certainly be less expensive in summer but you may find them convenient since sometimes parking is difficult when driving to a beach.

If you mean restaurants/supermarkets then you can use Google maps to see what is near your possible rentals. Put in the addresses and then use the search nearby function to see restaurants or supermarkets.
