Not really a good way. There is a new express bus the #235 that will take you from downtown San Diego to the transit center in Escondido and then you'd need to either walk about 1/2mile or so or take a taxi the rest of the way. It is a new service but I am not sure how long the bus takes. I read on one site that it is 2hrs. but that sounds too long to me!

By car it would take about 40min. or less from downtown.

Here is one tour that goes there too.

I have no experience with the tour company:

i think renting a car for a day is the best. it's a pretty drive as you get close to the park. there are some winery's out there you could stop at. spend some time at the park and then on the way back, i like to head to the coast and hitting the beach (laguna beach or carlsbad). if you are going there during the summer/fall, it will be hot so a dip in the water at the end of the day is appreciated.

I think lttt means La Jolla not Laguna Beach. Laguna would be the wrong direction for driving back to your hotel in downtown.

Hard to tell cost as prices change. Anywhere from about $40 including insurance to more than that or less than that. It depends on which day exactly , which car, which company etc.

Riff - Panicbuy is from the UK.

Don't you have a car rental website for UK travelers that also includes insurance? I've seen you post it but have never made note of it. I know it's helped many people from the UK and Europe.

Yes but I dont know if they do one day rentals.

For foreign visitors we usually suggest an on line company like:

www.rentalcars.com they will include all the insurance you need
