San Diego with kids for 4 days

Hello, I will be staying in San Diego for 4 nights in the Westin hotel (Sat-Tue). Can someone recommend the best places to go/ see with 2 kids? I'd like to spend a day at the beach, go out at night for seafood, relax and walk around. Which day of the week is best go to SeaWorld?

Also can someone recommend best places to stop by along the coast from SD to LA, I have all day, I can leave early from SD, my flight is at 10pm from LAX. What highway is best to take?

What you see depends on ages & interests.

Legoland in Carlsbad is good if the children are into legos, or younger than 10 (we took a 14 year old there who embarrased us by enjoying herself, while her younger siblings enjoyed the park, by playing for several hours with the motorized & high tech legos. She is now an engineer.)

There are old ships, an aircraft carrier, and US & Soviet submarines to tour at the waterfront. You can also take a harbor cruise.

The zoo is world famous. More unique, but hotter & with more walking, is their Safari Park in Escondido.

Thank you. I am from New York and we have Lego Land and Bronx Zoo, I want a unique experience for my kids, what i can't get on the East Coast. My kids are 9 and 5. We are already doing Disney and Universal Studios prior to arriving in San Diego.

Tidepools might be interesting. There is one near Laguna Beach, between LA & San Diego.

The simplest route from SD to LAX is the 5 to the 405. Don't take the toll road, it's only slightly more direct, but it's now complicated to pay the toll.

Hi fashion - when is this trip? If it's in the summer I would NOT go to the Safari Park. It can be 90 - 100 + degrees out there. It is not in San Diego but about 40 minutes inland. Not pleasant in the summer.

Some familes enjoy being outdoors and renting bicycles. You can do that in all out beaches. Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, Mission Bay, Coronado. You can take a Harbor cruise with either Hornblower or Flagship you can walk from your hotel to the Bay where the cruises leave from. It's also where the USS Midway is. I recommend the 1 hr North cruise because it's more scenic. The kids might enjoy seeing the seals / sea lions sunning themselves on the bait docks.

You can also do a speedboat adventure cruise

There's also the Seal tour

In Mission Beach there's Belmont Park

What types of things do your kids like to do? What are they interested in?

Check out Balboa Park's website

In the Omni is

It's a chain and I admit that I haven't eaten there in awhile. It's usually been pretty solid - I'd read reviews.

Next door to your hotel is Tin Fish.

Higher end seafood - Roy's Hawaiian Fusion right on the water in the Marriott hotel. Nice outdoor patio. A little further walk is Top of the Market which is the upstairs restaurant. The Fish Market downstairs when busy is extremely noisy, crowded and unpleasant to me. Although there is an oyster bar, sushi bar as well. I'd only sit outside on their patio to avoid the noise.

We just left San Diego with 2 kids, we did see seaworld and the zoo, Recommend Mission beach but if you want shells and my kids did, travel south to Imperial beach. Have fun.
