Blacks Beach In November

Just a questions, would people be still at Blacks Beach in beginning of November? Is it still legal to do an "all over tan experience" at this beach still?

What is best way to access this area? do you have to pay for parking? or free parking?

It really depends on the weather. If it is cold (by our standards), few people will be on the beach. However, I have seen people wear a sweater with nothing underneath in winter.

And yes, you can still get the "all over tan experience."

There are a number of ways to access Black's.

The fastest is the Glider Port trail down to the beach. The trail is steep and uneven with lots of erosion and wooden steps. Going down is easy, but going up takes a little effort. Park at the Glider Port for free.

Another way is to come from the north end of Torrey Pines State Reserve at Torrey Pines State Beach. There usually is street parking, or you can park across the beach in a parking lot. Walk south on the beach a couple of miles. Best to do at low tide, since there is a section at Flat Rock where you may have to wade through knee deep or deeper water at high tide.

A third way is to drive to the parking area at Torrey Pines State Reserve and walk to the beach at Flat Rock and then head south. $10 per car.

Another way is to take the lifeguard road at on La Jolla Farms Road and walk down the steep paved road to the beach and head north on the beach. Parking can be hard to find in the neighborhood because of the surfers.

And last, walk from La Jolla Shores beach north for a couple of miles (only at low tide). Park in the free parking lot.

Yes, people will still be at the beach, if it's a warm sunny day. That is only likely if there is a "Santa Ana condition" prevailing, meaning a large high-pressure air mass over the entire southwest U.S. If that is not prevailing it could be cool and possibly cloudy at the beach. There are typically people there on any day of the year, but more people on warm, sunny days.

Technically it is no longer legal to be nude on that beach but there is no enforcement. It was legal for 2 years in the late 1970s but has not been legal since then, but since nudity is so common there and there is essentially no enforcement, it is "virtually" legal. You will not be arrested or cited for nudity on the beach there.

There are 4 ways to get to that beach and all involve either a long walk or else a hike down (and then up) the 300-foot-high bluffs. There is a 5th way, if you could get someone to drive you down a side road in the La Jolla Farms neighborhood and drop you off. However sometimes the gate to that road is closed. So I wouldn't count on that. Most people take one or the other of the two trails that start at Torrey Pines Glider Port. The trail nearest the glider port is easier since it is a bit more developed and has handrails in some spots.

There is no parking fee at the glider port, but all parking is on dirt, which in some spots is a bit bumpy. If you get there early or are lucky, you might find a place to park along Torrey Pines Scenic Road just before it ends at the glider port. If you choose to walk all the way down from Torrey Pines State Beach or all the way up from La Jolla Shores, you can find free parking at either of those. Those walks have some sections which are impassable at high tide.

For details on how to get to the beach, go to http://blacksbeach.org and click on "Routes to Blacks Beach" for speciic directions. (Be forewarned that site does have some nude photos.) Be well-prepared for the hike down the bluffs and then back up again. Bring everything you will need, including plenty of water, and whatever else you need, possibly sunscreen even in November if it is a sunny day. The ocean water will be too cold for swimming at that time, unless you are very hardy.

That's right it's not legal but it's not enforced. One reason is because it''s a bit difficult to get to so it's not a beach where families with all their gear will be heading to. So, pretty much all adults. The only time I'm aware of any enforcement is about other behaviors. I havent witnessed it but there have been several episodes of 'Lifeguards' where it showed the lifeguards & cops were called there but it wasn't because of the nudity.
