biking on Cape Cod Rail Trail

We plan to be in Wellfleet the first week in September, arrive Tuesday depart Sunday. Any estimate on how crowded the Cape Code Rail Trail will be during that time?

We are very inexperienced bicycle riders, so if that is not the right venue, please suggest a more appropriate location in the Wellfleet area. Are there any particular parts of the trail that might be less crowded?

Any bike-friendly suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping the "summer crunch" will be over, and the trail will be peaceful. Any chance?

The Cape clears out quite a bit after the Labor Day weekend; it'll be busy through this week. The trail is long and there really isn't 'trail traffic' to hold you up once you're on a trail. Here's info. for you to peruse before you arrive:

www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/ccrt.htm

The bike trail is paved (some gentle slopes in places and some of the trail is roadside) and is broken up into sections so you can bike what you're comfortable with.

Please wear a helmet and please obey all signs at the roadway crosswalks. (Stop, get off your bike, and walk it across the street). Cars are doing their best to watch out for crossing bikers, but many bikers aren't stopping at the crosswalks!

You are arriving at a time when the crowds have diminished substantially and you are locating in Wellfleet which is less densely populated. If you are renting bikes then do have a chat with the folks there about your best 'rides' but the rail trail is nice and sedate for you. Have fun.
