Trip to Utah

Is May or September the best time to tour the national parks. We are 60, will do some light hiking. We have 7=8 days. What is the best route? Is it better to start at Vegas and end at Salt Lake city? Not very interested in touring Salt Lake City. How many days do you recommend at each park?

Best place to start is look at the top right of the Utah forums page and look under "How to see the Parks in 8 days." It gives sample itineraries, maps, how long to stay etc.

Flying into one place and out of another may lead to rental car drop charges. Something to think about.

May or September is fine.May before Memorial Day is good. Kids are back in school in September, and after Labor Day crowds start to decrease.

October is the best in my book.

Both months are great. I suspect you'll find it busier in May than September. Unless you're going to the Grand Canyon, Salt Lake is a better gateway. As noted, do check rental car first if you decide to do an open-jaw flight. It's 4-5 hours from Salt Lake to Moab, Torrey, Bryce or Zion.

Have fun.

Take the gateway city which gives you the best airfare and car rental.

Either LV or SLC would be about equal.

I love May, but September works well also. Don't think you could go wrong either way....unless you are talking about next month when getting lodging this late may be an issue.
